First, it announced by surprise ‘Alyx’, a new installment of a franchise that many thought was dead, ‘Half-Life’, and with which many players predict the definitive boost that virtual reality game mechanics need. Now, Valve has decided to promote the game, for whose release there are two months left, in the way that is closest to hand: giving away on Steam for two months the rest of the games in the series, absolute classics of first-person action.

The games will not be added to the user’s library permanently, but will be active for the two months of the promotion. It is a limitation (Valve has given away the ‘Portal’ games, for example, in other promotions), but two months is enough to delve into the adventures of Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance in their confrontation against the Alliance. It is not known exactly how long this period will last, because it will be until the release of Alyx, which still has no definite date.

The invasion, free of charge

These are the games included in the promotion (unfortunately the aforementioned ‘Portal’ games, which are both spin-offs and not spin-offs of ‘Half-Life’, are not included):

In a statement from Valve, the company states that “‘Half-Life: Alyx’ is set before the events of ‘Half-Life 2’ and the episodes, but the games share characters and story elements.” They also believe that “the best way to enjoy the new game is to play all the old games, but especially ‘Half-Life 2’ and the two episodes”.
